We provide comprehensive dentistry solutions for our Ocean Springs patients that are looking to have dental work performed, improve their smile or simply keep their teeth clean. One thing that we find is that our patients tend to be more comfortable when they know what to expect and can get their questions answered. Over the years, it has become clear that some of the questions come up repeatedly. With that in mind, we have answered frequently asked questions for you here.
Will my tooth need to come out?
In general, we can keep damaged or infected teeth in place while solving the initial problem. This prevents natural teeth from needing to be removed which is better for the long-term health of your jaw. An example of this is if your tooth becomes infected. We can typically remove the infected area by performing a root canal. Once the infection is removed, we can restore the missing tooth structure using a filling. This way the tooth can remain in place, and your mouth will go back to being healthy. Likewise, if you crack or chip your tooth, it shouldn’t need to be pulled. Instead, we can restore it using a dental veneer, crown or a bonding procedure.
Can I get pain medication?
Yes, we offer a variety of solutions for ensuring your complete comfort while having dental work done. By offering comprehensive dentistry, we also offer pain medication so that our patients can remain completely comfortable while undergoing a procedure. If you are having something minor done like a teeth cleaning and are still worried, we can help you to relax with medication as well. Our goal is to ensure that our patients have a positive experience, and this is one of the ways that we do so.
Will teeth whitening really work?
It works incredibly well. When you schedule a professional teeth-whitening procedure, you will be delighted with the results. As a provider of comprehensive dentistry, our patients’ teeth are typically whitened by eight shades or more so it truly is stunning how much of a difference it makes. If you purchase a solution at the store, it will work but not as well so keep that in mind when going forward.
Why do I need to replace my crown?
If we notice that a crown is wearing out during a dental exam, you will need to replace it in order to protect the tooth underneath and prevent any further damage. Still, many people are surprised to find that their crown or veneer won’t last forever. While this would be nice, most materials have a certain lifespan and restorations are no different. Just like natural teeth can wear away, a crown can too. Some people have been known to keep their crowns for over twenty years so if you want them to last a long time – brush and floss your teeth, have them cleaned regularly and protect them while playing sports and sleeping. By doing so, you can prolong the lifespan of your dental crowns or any other restoration that you have in place.
